3* review from Paranormal Romance Guild – have a look and see what you think. Is it written in Old English or just slightly obscure English? Anyone got any thoughts on that? Sounds like the reviewer did get quite caught up in it – she was rooting for Nereia and says she cried when Copeland turned nasty –Β but thought it was over-complex perhaps, which is probably a fair comment.
Can’t decide whether that’s a good review, a bad review or not really either – but then a 3* isΒ not really good or bad, but a more neutral vote I suppose.
What do you lot think?

I just started this book and I wouldn’t say it’s old English, maybe a little obscure.
As for 3 stars, for me, it’s a likable book where I would read the books that follow it.
Obscure is a fair comment, I think! I like your version of 3*! I’ve always thought of it as fairly okay but not right bothered about it, to use a Yorkshire-ism! But am always glad to have another opinion on that.
Hope you enjoy it, Jenn – and thanks for the comment!

Old English? Just English English. It’s like when I read Mills & Boon novels and phrases like “could of” instead of “could have” crop up. To me “could of” is incorrect to the point of slang (it comes from verbal rather than written English, after all) but it’s just American usage I think. Old English is a whole other language. What the reviewer probably meant was “stylised archaic English” but I didn’t spot a single “prithee” so you’re probably in the clear. I get the lots of different characters = confusing but I thought that was fantasy novels in general rather than yours per se. The main thing is the reviewer wanted to read the other books – a bad review is where the reviewer only read the first half of the book π
Anyway, I’ve read some of what’s to come and I’m looking forward to seeing it in print. Jxx
It may be that my use of lang is more Yorkshire than I thought – after all, Yorkshire uses words in ways similar to Middle or Old English because there were so many Vikings Oooop North, apparently.
Heheh, yes and I’ve just finished trawling through your initial edit and my own, so once it’s input I may be coming back for another tour through it with a scalpel! Procrastination (and moving house and family visits) are shouldering their way in at the moment though, so not imminently – MUCH inputting of corrections to do!
